BESSEMER CITY, NC – Walter “Winnie” Winford Etters, 82, of Bessemer City, passed away on May 18, 2022. He was born on February 2, 1940, in Cleveland County, to the late John William Etters and Ardella Harmon Etters. 
He is preceded in death by his daughter Kelly Butler, siblings Theodore Etters, Andrew Etters, Bob Etters, and Evelyn Tyler.
Walter was a master auto mechanic, who liked to go hunting and drag racing.
Left to cherish his memories is his grandson, Justin Etters, great-grandchildren, Austin Etters, Teryn Etters, Morgan Etters, great-great-grandson, Roman Etters, sisters, Martha Jackson Hillsman, Dorothy Etters Lane, and brother, William Lawrence Etters, nephew Bobby Etters, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews, that were special to him.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Willis Benjamin Simpson, Jr, “Bill”, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 29, 2022 at age 79 at Legend Healthcare assisted living facility in Tonganoxie, KS.
Bill was born in Greensboro, NC, son of the late Willis Benjamin Simpson, Sr and Miriam Edwena Euliss Simpson.
He graduated from Central High School in Kings Mountain and then North Carolina State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He was the owner-operator of Kings Mountain Machine Works and Community PC. He was proud to join in the family business, KMW, working with Bill Sr. and later with his son Ben Simpson.  Bill continued his career developing computer software and support websites.
Bill loved his family, enjoyed working on lifelong projects, laughing and telling jokes. He also enjoyed passing the time watching movies and playing card games. He was a wonderful father and husband who will be missed greatly by everyone who knew and loved him.
Bill  is survived by his children, Benjamin Simpson and Kathleen Brasington; former wife, Susan Simpson; and grandchildren, Brett, Bronwen, Gwendolyn, Liza, Maddy, Miles and Wiley.

GROVER, NC – James Martin Scarborough, 79, died Sunday, May 15, 2022 at his home.
Born in Wilmington, NC, he was the son of the late James and Helen McCrae Scarborough.
James was employed by Metrolina Sprinkler, Duke Energy and retired from Parker Hannifin. He was a member of Fairview Lodge #339, was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed golf.
He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchild dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Zelma “Tinky” Scarborough of the home; daughters, Paige Biddix and husband Timothy and Brooke Bolin and husband Christopher; sons, Jason Scarborough and Jeremy Scarborough and wife Jennifer, all of Kings Mountain; sister, Jeanette Hoover and husband Knoxie of Charlotte; grandchildren, Jennifer Falls, Brandi Falls, Madison Ayscue, Josh Bolin, Spurgeon Scarborough, Hunter Scarborough, Cooper Scarborough, Colton Scarborough, Ember Scarborough and Joey Biddix; and great-grandchild, Remi Biddix.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Etta Rebecca “Becky” Styers, 79, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away surrounded by her family on May 10, 2022 at her home.
She was born in Chestertown, MD, the daughter of the late James Allen Bailey and Louise Beck Bailey and was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard Thomas Styers Sr. Becky was also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Debra Lynn Styers and Tracy Styers Oliver, a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Swink, and her brother-in-law, Joe Subolefsky.
She was a past member of Corinth Primitive Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. Becky worked in the textile industry for most of her life and in her spare time  enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, creating artistic crafts and coloring. The thing that brought Becky the most joy in life were her many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved deeply. Always outgoing, Becky never met a stranger. She loved everyone she knew from the moment she met them, never holding a grudge and always treating others with kindness. Becky was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Her sweet spirit and guidance will be missed sorely by everyone who knew and loved her.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Helen Case House, 69, of  Kings Mountain, NC, was called up to sing with the Angels in Heaven on April 30, 2022. She was born in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late Robert Charles and Juanita Louise Case and was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny and Robert Case and her sisters Tyra Sheehan and Rosemary Batchlor. Peaches was a beautiful soul who was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her spirit was pure fire and ice. Peaches was a legend around Kings Mountain and will be sorely missed by many. Her light shown brightly in this world and now shines bright in the Heavens.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Peggy Shealy Ramey, 86, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 26, 2022 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, NC.
She was born in Spartanburg County, SC, daughter of the late Frank Mathias and Helen May Shealy and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Burris Endel Ramey. Peggy was also preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Shealy and a grandson, Justin Endel Ramey.
She was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church. Peggy began playing piano in church at the age of 12 and continued her musical service to the faith community her entire life. She was a wonderful baker and an avid daily Bible reader. Her knowledge of scripture was a blessing not only to Peggy but to everyone around her. Peggy’s love of people was evidenced by her ability to make friends in a matter of minutes. She never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with anyone. Peggy’s life was a profession of her faith and her gracious and loving spirit will be missed by many.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family with all that her heart could give.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at White Oak Manor for the wonderful care, kindness and love shown to Peggy during her stay.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – “To You, O Lord I lift up my soul” Psalm 25
George W. Plonk, MD passed away on April 24th at Kings Mountain Hospital after a brief illness. He was 103 years young.
Born on March 17, 1919 in Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ellen Plonk. He was the seventh of ten children.
George graduated from Kings Mountain High School where he played football and baseball. He was a proud Tar Heel Class of 1940 at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. In 1941 he married Margaret Cooper despite the fact that she was a Duke graduate! After college he attended Carolina Medical School (at that time only a two year program) and transferred to Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and later did his residency at Lankenau Hospital. He subsequently passed the American Board of Surgery exam. His medical training had been interrupted by World War II where he served two years as a physician with last year being in Italy at the end of the war. Later in life, he was proud to take part in the Flight of Honor and to be recognized as a veteran at the World War II Memorial in Washington DC.
Once he completed his training in general surgery, he took his family to Raleigh and joined the practice of Dr. Gordon Sinclair who he credited with teaching him the importance of a compassionate bedside manner. In 1957 he began practicing in Kings Mountain. Dr Plonk felt privileged and humbled to be able to serve and care for the citizens of Kings Mountain and surrounding areas. He was respected by his medical colleagues and loved by his patients. He retired from his practice in 1984. He did assist Dr. Joe Zucker an orthopedic surgeon, for several years until Dr. Zucker moved to Charlotte.
Dr Plonk was an avid horseman who developed a love for the Paso Fino breed. He loved trail riding and even had some success in national PasoFina horse shows. He was a sports fan cheering loudly for his grandchildrens’ events, the Tar Heels, and the Braves. He enjoyed working out at the YMCA and catching up with old friends and new. He was also active in community service as he was a member of the Lions and Rotary clubs. He was always very active in the church and served on the church council at Resurrection Lutheran Church for a number of years. He and Esther Plonk are also founding members of Advent Lutheran Church.
George loved to tell stories and could hold the attention of both young and old for hours as he talked about his life and its adventures. He told a story with passion, humor, and humility making it interesting and endearing regardless of topic or timeframe.
The joy of Dr Plonk’s life was his family. He enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, Margaret who passed away in 2003. They had settled in Kings Mountain where they raised their five children.
In 2004, Dr. Plonk married Esther Muench and further expanded his family with the addition of her three children: Jeff and Jim Muench, and Jennie Laney and their families. They were married for 17 years. Esther was a very loving, caring wife who added much happiness and companionship to his later years.
One of his proudest moments occurred on his 100th birthday when Governor Roy Cooper honored him with induction into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. This is the highest award given by the governors of North Carolina since 1963 for persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Muench Plonk; one sister, Clara Politis; a sister-in-law, Dorcas Plonk, and his 5 children: Carole Fenimore Haas Gravagno, Peggy Pollack (Ken), George Webb Plonk (Judy), Barbara Bridges (Bill) and Becky Loftin (Bill). He was very proud of his sixteen grandchildren and would boast about “the ones who made him great”: his multitude of great grandchildren. He took great care and attention to keep track of everyone: always showing up for weddings, baptisms, graduations, and celebrations. He wrote wonderfully expressive letters, sent cards, and was quick to pick up the phone and check on loved ones.
His family has been blessed to know his unconditional love and support in the form of presence, advice, cheers, laughter, and hugs. His stories are legend and he regaled anyone who would listen right up to the last week.
The family would like to thank the staff of Summit Place and Kings Mountain Hospital for their exceptional care of Dr Plonk.
A family service was held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 30 at Advent Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC–Everette “Buddy” Medlin, 92, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 22, 2022 at Peak Resources in Cherryville, NC.
He was born June 17, 1929 in Gaston County, NC, son of the late Everette Fulton Medlin and Mary Lee Roberts Medlin. He will join his wife of almost 65 years, Dot Cothran Medlin and sister, Joyce Medlin Biddix.
Buddy was a longtime active member of First Wesleyan Church of Kings Mountain where he raised his family, made supportive and loving friends, and strengthened his faith. Buddy and Dot enjoyed traveling with Christian Tours, collecting antiques, and always doing for others.
In his younger days, he spent countless hours coaching and volunteering his time to his love and passion of sports.
He graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1948, served in the US Army, and retired from the Kings Mountain Post Office where he met many from the community.
He is survived by daughters: Barbara Giurintano (Phil) and Cindy Gillespie (Mike); grandchildren: Lauren Gillespie (Matt), MaryLee Giurintano (Erika Hodan-Giurintano), Kelly Melton (Rusty); great-grandchildren: Kyndal, Braxton, and Ava

He was born March 3, 1938, in Cleveland Co, NC, son of the late Carl C. and Vada Wright Falls.
Hal served honorably in the US Army. He also member of First Free Will Baptist Church, Gastonia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Falls; and brother, Carl Dean Falls.
Hal is survived by his loving wife of 28 years,

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Marilyn Lachman Stroup of Kings Mountain, 78, passed away peacefully with family by her side and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 14, 2022.
Marilyn was born on February 9th 1944 to John Ferdinand Lachman & Mary Kate Lachman of PA. Marilyn loved her family and friends. She held many positions through life in servicing the Public, whether it was a restaurant or a convenience store where she met her husband Ronnie L Stroup of 35 years. She loved people!!
Surviving to cherish her memories are Ronnie L Stroup (Husband) of Kings Mountain, Rose and Tyson of the home(her pups- 8 years old), Kim and Randy Tucker (daughter and husband) of Charlotte, Sean and Jennie Mangan (son and wife) of Clover, SC, and her daughter in love, Renee R. Lopes of Mt Holly, NC and her family. She also had grandchildren, step grandchildren and great grandchildren that she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Mary Lachman of PA, her brother Carl and her sister Patricia, her late husband Michael W. Mangan, and her 2nd born, 1st son Michael D. Mangan.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Jewell “Judy” Gerane Norwood, 90, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 14, 2022 at Testa Hospice House in Kings Mountain, NC.
She was born in Gaston County, NC, daughter of the late Thomas William and Willie Beach Jones and was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Alfred Norwood. Judy was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth and Leona, and her brother, Garth.
Judy was a long time active member of Circle 3 at Central United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. Judy loved the beach and cherished spending time with her family. Her kind and loving spirit drew people to her and she passed her love on to everyone she knew. Judy’s guidance will be missed dearly by her entire family, especially her grandchildren who she loved with all her heart. In the words of Judy, “Be careful and be sweet” until we meet again in Heaven.
She is survived by her sons: Roy A. Norwood and wife Loretta, Seneca, SC, and Michael O. KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – George Glenn Smith, 79, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 5, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Alamance County, NC, son of the late George Smith Jr. and Florence Heavner Smith and was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Ronnie Smith, and two grandchildren, Scott Smith and Kaysen Hammer.
Shortly after graduating from high school, where he played the trumpet and received the John Philip Sousa Award, which got George recognized by the office manager at FMC, he began his career with FMC Lithium Corporation of America which spanned more than 50 years. George worked in several areas of the plant, including administrative positions, time in the Aerospace Metals Division, and eventually given responsibility over the vehicle fleet at the plant. In his spare time, George continued to be active, owning his own motorcycle repair shop, and being involved with motorcycle drag racing. He also served on the board of the credit union for more than 30 years. George enjoyed spending time outdoors, playing golf and fishing. He was a selfless person who loved spending time with his family.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Kenneth Harold Bumgardner Sr. passed in peace surrounded by family at the age of 83 on April 7, 2022.
Born on January 5, 1939 in Gastonia, NC, Ken was the son of the late Eddleman and Mary Steele Bumgardner. He was a wonderful and loving husband of nearly 65 years to his wife Barbara Ford Bumgardner of Kings Mountain, NC; proud father of Kenneth Harold Bumgardner Jr. of Kings Mountain, NC, Christopher Wade Bumgardner of Gastonia, NC, Kevin Shawn Bumgardner of Sherrills Ford, NC and Melanie Bumgardner O’Bryan of Charlotte, NC. He was the proud grandfather of Sarah, Holland, Christopher, Matthew, Alyssa, Britni, Megan, Matteson, Carson and Riley, proud great-grandfather to Mackenzie, Peyton, Benji, Sawyer, Za’Mir, Zaelyn, Dannalee, Kaitland, Hadley; father-in-law to Donna (Kenny), Joy (Chris), Heather (Shawn) and Drew (Melanie).
Ken was an amazing and loving family man, a long-time member of Second Baptist Church and very well-respected member of the Kings Mountain community. He loved all people and had a strong love for all animals, especially his beloved horse, Blaze.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Kevin Shawn Bumgardner and his brother Charles Bumgardner. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sons Kenny (Donna) and Chris (Joy) and his daughter Melanie (Drew), as well as his grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters Ann Parker, Carolyn Holt (Junior) and Joyce Pace (Larry), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Donald Keith Dixon, 82, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 04, 2022 at Stanley Total Living in Stanley, NC.
He was born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late HK and Jeanette Bookout Dixon and was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Linda Moore Dixon and a grandson, Tony Baker. Don was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where he served on several committees. After graduating from Grover High School, Don attended Gardner Webb and Kings College where he earned a Business Degree. Late in life, he attended Cleveland Community College where he earned an Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting.
Don retired from Talon where he worked as a machinist for many years. Throughout his life, Don was an avid farmer and accomplished woodworker. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a mentor to many people, none so much as his grandson, Ryan, whom he mentored for his Eagle Scout Badge. Don was an expert when it came to building Pinewood Derby cars, and enjoyed building them for Ryan. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed greatly by his family and the community.
He is survived by son: D. Keith Dixon II and wife Kim, Kings Mountain, NC;  grandson: Ryan Alexander Dixon, Kings Mountain, NC; sister: Diane Senn and husband Palmer, Charlotte, NC.
Funeral service was held on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Billie McCurry Roberts, 84, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 3, 2022 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.
She was born in York County, SC, the daughter of the late Dewey and Daisy Mayhue McCurry and was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her brother, David McCurry.
Billie graduated from Blacksburg High School and Gaston College. She worked as an Executive Assistant and was retired from Reliance Electric. She loved playing Bingo every week. Always looking for a deal, Billie enjoyed shopping at local thrift and second hand stores. She enjoyed traveling and visiting locally owned eateries. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved spending time spoiling her grandchildren. Billie will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children: Alisa Criswell of Charlotte, NC and Steven Carroll of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren: Matthew and Alex Criswell, and Bryan Carroll; sister: Nora Nelson of Davidson, NC and several loving nieces and nephews.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC –  Sherry Marie Hughes, 49, passed away Tuesday, March 29th, at CMC Main in Charlotte.
Residing in Kings Mountain, she was the beloved daughter of Elaine Morrison (66) and Randy Morrison (64). She also leaves behind her biological father, Lenny Bridges.
Sherry was loved by her friends and family for her kind nature, and always put others before herself. She was selfless to a fault, and was extremely proud of her two children, who were the light of her world.
She is survived by her children, David Brandon Darnell (29) and Ashley Hughes (20).
Sherry was preceded in death by her grandfather Harold Flowers (86), grandmother Ruby Flowers (67), and her son Phillip (0).
Sherry’s entire life was for her children. As such, the family has opted to forego a service in favor of cremation, so that they may use the ashes in a memorial token for her children, and that she may always be with them.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Geraldine Virginia Leazer, 91, formerly of Gastonia went to the Light and Love we call Heaven on March 26, 2022 at her home in Kings Mountain, NC.
She was born in Charlotte, NC, daughter of the late Versie Waddell and Mable Duffy Cassada and was preceded in death by husband of 58 years, Dock Lee Leazer. Geraldine was also preceded in death by her daughter: Wanda L. Burgess; six brothers: Cecil, Raymond, Noel, Eugene, Brian, and Carl Cassada  and three sisters: Katheryn C. Nesbitt, Chestine C. Eppley, and Lucille C. Wright.
Geraldine was always friendly to everyone she met. She was a loving and faithful wife and wonderful caring mother. The lessons learned from her life, forgiveness, honesty, determination, and many more will live on in the lives of countless others.
She is survived by her aughters: Nancy Dianne Leazer and Vickie L. Moss (Scott) of Kings Mountain, NC.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Gaston Memorial Park in the Luke Section with Pastor David MacEachen officiating.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Audrey Grindstaff Truesdale Cody, 71, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2022 at her home.
She was born in McDowell County, NC, daughter of the late Fate Morgan and Maggie Thomas Grindstaff.
Audrey was a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church. She retired from the State of North Carolina DMV where she served as a drivers license hearings officer. Audrey enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends. After her retirement, Audrey served the community as a member of the Kings Mountain Planning and Zoning Committee. She was fond of shopping and loved spoiling her grandchildren. Audrey was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother to her many grandchildren. Her love, kindness, and warmth will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years: Glen H. Kings Mountain, NC – Dr. Jerry Lee Eskridge of Kings Mountain, NC died peacefully at Robin House Hospice in Gastonia on February 13th, 2022. He was 83. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Herman Eskridge; his mother, Mabel Irene Eskridge; his sister Myra Eskridge Morrison, and  brother-in-law, Carl Lee Morrison, Jr.
Jerry was born on February 7th, 1939 in Toluca, North Carolina at Edwards Clinic. He had one sister, Myra Eskridge Morrison. Jerry grew up in Double Shoals, NC. In grade school Jerry quickly formed a lifelong friendship with close friends loosely dubbed “The Gang”. As adults with families, they held annual reunions, Christmas celebrations, and beach trips.
He attended Shelby High School playing both basketball and football. He graduated in 1957. Jerry attended UNC Chapel Hill and earned his undergrad in Industrial Relations. After college he enlisted and served two years in the U.S. Army. Jerry and his future wife, Lynn, met up on a summer beach trip and started to date in 1960. He was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. While on weekend leave, Jerry would often hitchhike to Greensboro to spend time with Lynn who was attending Women’s College of Greensboro. He and Lynn married on March 28th, 1965.
After two years of managing at Fiber Industries, Jerry felt a calling to care for animals. Dr. Ted Westmoreland mentored and encouraged Jerry to go to vet school. He attended NC State University to earn his Pre-Med degree in 1971. Jerry then attended the University of Georgia in Athens to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1975. Under the encouragement of his mentor, Jerry opened his own veterinary practice in nearby Kings Mountain in 1977.
Dr. Eskridge practiced veterinary medicine for over 40 years at his own practice, Kings Mountain Animal Hospital. He cared for countless animals for the entire community with a warm heart for cold noses.
Along with an affinity for animals, he was a lifelong UNC Tarheel fan. Jerry adored college basketball and never missed a single ball game. His sense of humor was second to none as he loved cracking clever jokes and making others laugh. For decades he played tennis with friends weekly and attended a few US Opens. When he wasn’t working 6 days a week, he would take Sunday drives in his 1974 Triumph TR6 or as he called it, “little red car”. An avid reader and lover of history, Jerry was a virtual encyclopedia on World War II, naming off random battles and skirmishes. He had a passion for sailing, and although time rarely permitted, his good friend G.K. Howard encouraged him to come along on many sailing trips in the Virgin Islands.
Jerry was a member of Kings Mountain Rotary Club since 1977. He participated in their backpack program that began 10 years ago. It has fed 350,500 children locally. Jerry was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Kings Mountain.
The most important thing to him was family and their well-being. After family get togethers, he wouldn’t rest easy until all of his adult kids had made it to their respective homes safely. Extremely generous, one of his favorite sayings was “We’re all in this together.” He loved spending time with his family, stating, “It doesn’t matter where we go, as long as we are together.” At family gatherings he thoroughly enjoyed listening to his family play songs on guitar, piano, and fiddle.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynn, one daughter, Elizabeth Eskridge of Wendell, NC, two sons, Rame Eskridge and Will Eskridge, a daughter-in-law, Marie Eskridge, one grandson, Doc Wolfgang Eskridge of Athens, GA, and his dog, Mattie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm March 26, 2022 at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory.
The family will receive friends following the service. A private interment was held at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.

Kings Mountain, NC – Jessie Mae Bishop Timms, 92, of Kings Mountain, NC, went to be with her Savior and Lord on March 17, 2022 at Caromont Hospital in Gastonia, NC.
She was born In McMinn County, Athens, Tennessee, the daughter of the late James O’Neal Bishop and Verdie Mae Bishop.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Clifton E. Timms; her son, Ronald Clifton Timms;stepson, Joel A. Timms; daughters-in-law, Wanda Ross Timms and Darlene Bailey Timms; brother James Charles Franklin Bishop and sister Bertha Bishop.
Jessie was a dedicated lifelong member at Macedonia Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities and teaching the Dorcas Sunday School Class for approximately 20 years. She was a humble servant and generous with her time and talents, faithful to serve as Christ led her.  She was very faithful to her Savior, family, and friends. She retired from Park Yarn Mills/Glenn Raven after 46 plus years of service. Her loving kindness and servanthood will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Jessie is survived by her husband, Earl R. Timms of the home for over 26 years, living in Winter Haven, Florida for approximately 9 years before returning to Kings Mountain, NC  in 2004; children: Morris E. Timms (Debbie) of Blythewood, SC; Gail Timms Smith (Mike) of Kings Mountain, NC, Allen R. Timms (Karen) of Floria; siblings:  Kay Bishop, James Bishop, Viola Bishop, Brenda Bishop and Patricia Bishop; grandchildren:  Dana T. Canoutas (Troy); Angel Smith Jenkins (Chris); Michelle T. Walker (Dale); Brian S. Timms (Jodi); Michael W. Smith (Jaime); Wendy T. Carswell (Worth); Kamie T. Russell (Carlton), Erica T. Kings Mountain, NC – Angela “Angie” Renee Kirk, 46, of Kings Mountain, passed away March 5, 2022, at her home.
Angela was born in Kings Mountain.
She was a 1993 graduate of Bessemer City High School.
She attended Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Dianne “Dinky” Fite; grandparents, Oscar and Estelle Sanders, Earl and Elizabeth “Boots” Fite.
Angie is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, William “Billy” Kirk; father, David Fite of Kings Mountain; sisters, Tonia (Danny) Willard of Gastonia, and Kim Fite of Gastonia; special mother-in-law, Connie Scott of  Huntington, WV; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and beloved fur baby, Roxie.
A funeral service was held at 3:00 pm Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, 618 Chestnut Ridge Church Road, Kings Mountain, NC  officiated by Pastor Gregg Neely and Rev. David MacEachern.
The family received friends 1:30-3:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
Burial was at the church cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Douglas Rathbone, 83, of Kings Mountain, NC, went to be with the Lord on March 09, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late Dewey and Dona Dorsey Rathbone and was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Loretta Taylor Rathbone. Doug was also preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Lynn Ramey, and his brothers, Steve, Bobby, and Paul Rathbone and two sisters, Geraldine Hollifield and Juanita Sims.
He was a longtime member of First Wesleyan Church and retired from PPG as a foreman after many years of service. Doug served the United States honorably in the US Air Force. He loved sports and was an avid golfer. Doug enjoyed taking family vacations to his home at the coast and loved spending time in the mountains. His kindness, friendship and love will be missed greatly by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his granddaughter: Anna Ramey Moncrief and husband Eric of Hendersonville, NC; great-granddaughter: Callie Breeze Moncrief, Hendersonville, NC; son: James Ramey of Kings Mountain, NC; sister: Belinda Adams of Kings Mountain, NC and numerous nephews.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Gerald Edward Payne, 65, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on November 25, 2021 at his home in Kings Mountain, NC. He was born in Cherokee County, NC, son of the late Floyd T. and Bernice Drinnon Payne and was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Dean Payne and two nephews, Tim and Ken Payne.
Gerald graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1974 after which he began his career at Eaton Corp where he retired. He was an avid Nascar fan and loved to fish in his spare time.
He is survived by his niece: Robin Payne Pickett and husband Kevin; nephew: Mark Payne; several great nieces and nephew and beloved cousins.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Wilma Ruth Lawter Dotson, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2022.  Wilma was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1939 to the late Ida Ruth Edwards Lawter and Farris Lawter in Polk County, North Carolina.  She was the fifth of nine children.  In 1955, she was introduced to the love of her life, Dewey Dotson.  From the first day that they met, they were inseparable.  Wilma and Dewey married on December 18, 1956.  Wilma was a homemaker and dedicated mother to their 2 children, Ricky and Tony.
Her family was her greatest joy.  She especially loved being “Mema” to her 3 grandchildren, Jeff, Kim and Shelby.   She loved making sure everyone was uncomfortably full at each meal with her delicious cooking and baking, most notably her strawberry preserves, chicken and dumplings and lemon meringue pie.  She loved playing Rolly-bat in the backyard, watching the deer and birds from her window and listening to gospel music.      
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Dewey Dotson; son Tony Dotson; sister Janice Graham; brother Roger Lawter; grandson Jeffrey Dotson; granddaughters Kimberly (Larry) and Shelby (Aaron) and numerous family members and friends.
She was predeceased in death by her eldest son, Ricky; sisters Betty Jean Pierce and Jewel Wisnant; and brothers Joseph “Bo” Lawter, Farris “Jack” Lawter, Charles “Smug” Lawter and Billy “Cab” Lawter.
A private graveside service will be held at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Wilma’s honor to the American Cancer Society.

Born March 2, 1945, in Tarboro, NC, Agnes was the daughter of the late Richard E. and Mary Modline Staton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years David Robinson and a sister Irene S. Hyman. Agnes was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She retired from Reeves Brothers in Bessemer City, NC after 30 years of service. Endearingly given the name “Maw Maw,” Agnes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

He was born in Kings Mountain, NC, son of the late Lester Hayward and Victoria Carroll Bullock and was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Burton.
David attended Christ Worship Center in Gastonia, NC. He served the United States honorably as a member of the US Army. David retired from Eaton after 35 years of service as a machinist. He was a wonderful provider for his family. David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose guidance and encouragement will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.

She was born in Cleveland County, NC, and was preceded in death by her father, Roger Lee Greason Sr.
Sharon worked in the textile industry for most of her life and attended True Gospel Holiness Church. She was an avid animal lover and loved being around people. Sharon was an outgoing person and enjoyed talking with people. She could carry on a conversation with anyone she met. Sharon was very independent and enjoyed doing things for others. Her sense of humor was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She loved music, especially Dwight Yoakam, who was her sweetheart.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her undying love, kindness, and sweet spirit will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Tina Howell Clayton, 53, of Gastonia, NC, passed away on February 16, 2022 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.
She was born in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late Fred Odell and Betty Lou Howell. Tina worked in the cosmetology industry for more than 20 years having owned her own shop for some time. Tina was known by everyone for her strong will and always being beautifully dressed. She had a radiance that was undeniable to everyone she met. Tina loved being with her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life. Always full of encouragement, Tina could light up the room with her outgoing attitude and humor. She enjoyed her career and made a lasting impression everywhere she went. Tina was a  loving mother, doting grandmother, and wonderful friend who will be missed dearly by many.

GROVER - Joy “Renee” Calhoun, 64, of Grover, North Carolina met her Heavenly Father on February 9, 2022 at Testa Family Hospice House.
She was born in Wadsworth, Ohio, daughter of the late Horace B. Burgin and Mildred Lorene Allen.
Renee was the owner of Military Park Quick stop and Military Park Mini Storage for 20 years. She was a longtime prayer warrior for Family Worship Center, Church of God, Kings Mountain. In her spare time, she loved to worship and study her Bible. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends, but mostly, her grandbabies.
She had a heart of pure gold and will be missed by everyone.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Calhoun of 42 years; son, Dillon Scott Ingle (Gisela); daughters, Crystal Tayara-Binns (Shannon), Jessica Calhoun Lail (Wesley), Bella Calhoun; grandchildren Jackson, Abe, Cruz, Edie; brother Randy Burgin (Kathy).
There was a private celebration of life with family and close friends.
Interment was held at Olney Presbyterian Church, 250 Olney Church Rd.,
 Gastonia, NC.

KINGS MOUNTAIN: Joanne Morgan Tessneer, 88, passed peacefully after a day surrounded by her family, Sunday, February 20, 2022 at her home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Nannie Jones Morgan.
Joanne retired from Homelite/John Deere in Gastonia and was a member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother who had a passion teaching children in Sunday school.  She was a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary and the Shelby Rescue Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Morgan.; and great grandson, Deacon McPherson.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 71 years, Dwight Tessneer, of the home; sons, Dr. Roger Tessneer of Bostic and Alan Tessneer and wife Julie of Amarillo, TX; daughters, Susan Blair and husband Sam of Gastonia and Betsy Tessneer and husband Tom Wells of Kings Mountain; sister, Harriette Burnett of Cherry Grove, SC; grandchildren, Adam Tessneer and wife Mary Allison, Samantha McPherson and husband Ben, Cameron Blair and wife Carmen, Derek Tessneer and wife Ashley, Destiny Tessneer, Dustin Tessneer and wife Julie, Riley Tessneer, Summer Tessneer and Krystal Wells; great grandchildren, Emma Grace, Leah Beth, Anna Claire, Preston, Niles, Gideon and Jakob.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:30 PM Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 25, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. Dr. John Sloan officiating.
Joanne will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Rebecca (Becky) Oesch Edsall went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 15th, surrounded by her family at her home in Kings Mountain, NC.
The daughter of Olive Marie Krisher Oesch and the late Billie Eugene Oesch, Becky was born on November 22, 1954, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by sister Ramona Oesch, brother Wayne Oesch, brother William Oesch, and nephews Douglas Oesch and Travis Tuffley.
Becky is survived by her mother Olive Oesch of Kings Mountain, NC; her sister Renee Oesch Klein and husband Peter of Baltimore, Maryland; brother Wade Elliott Oesch of Waterloo, Indiana; daughters Brooke and Lyndsey Edsall, both of Kings Mountain; and Autumn Edsall Fincher and husband Bob of Hickory, NC; grandchildren Will, Carson Rebecca, and Claire Fincher; many be-loved nieces and nephews, and Johnny Hutchins, her long-time friend and faithful companion along with his daughter Buffy and husband John Murphy, daughter Tammy and husband Gary Houge, and son Chris and wife Christy Hutchins and their children and grandchildren. Becky will be missed by Toby, Copper and Tickle, her beloved puppies, who laid by her side until her very last day.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain, NC, officiated by Rev. Dr. K. Michael Varn and Rev. John W. Futterer. The family received friends from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Betty Patterson of Kings Mountain passed away February 17th  at  Jim Testa Hospice House Kings Mountain.
She was married to the late Henry Patterson. Together they shared three children, two sons, the late Wayne Patterson and the late Kenny Patterson.
One daughter, Deborah Seay.
She was employed by Kings Mountain Hospital for many years, and was loved by everyone there! Her spirit of generosity, love and mercy will live on forever in the hearts of those that knew her best and loved her best!  She possessed a huge heart for others, and her service to mankind was endless! She will be greatly missed!

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – Charles Anderson Carrigan, 80, passed away on February 14, 2022 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Born in Gaston County on July 14, 1941, he was the son of the late John William Carrigan and Nadine Car-rigan Hedgepath. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his sister, Ritta Carrigan.
Charles served in the United States Marine Corp before marrying his lifetime love Betty Faye Hanna on May 12, 1962. Charles was owner/operator of Carrigan Auto Sales and Cherokee Auto Auction.
He enjoyed volunteering and helping people in his community. His passions included donating to and attending The American Legion World Series and being involved with the children of Grace Christian Academy. He was once employed by and remained active with the Cleveland County Sheriffs Department. Charles was a member and former Deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church and attended Branch Street Chapel. He was an active boater and loved fishing on the Intracoastal Waterway with his friends. He will be remembered for his love of life, his big smile, quick wit, and most of all his incredible heart.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Hanna Carrigan of Kings Mountain; four children: Sherry Rippy (Michael), Jimmy D. Faulkner Jr (Lynn), Lisa Yarbro (Leslie), and Tonya Leatherman (Scott); 8 grandchildren: Joshua Hollifield (Brandi), Matthew Faulkner(Maria), Dustin Yarbro, Taylor Rippy, Carrigan Leatherman, Tucker Leatherman, Leslie Brooks(Teddy), Amber McGill and 8 great grandchildren; Levi Hollifield, Bryson Yarbro, Jaxson Faulkner, Avery Oliver, Jason Pegg, Makayla Brooks, TJ Brooks, Jaylan McGill.
The family received friends from 5:00-8:00 Friday, February 18, 2022 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home in Shelby. KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – William Donald Crawford, 92, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on February 5, 2022 at his home in Matthews, NC.
He was born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late Thomas Harmon and Ethel Lee Reynolds Crawford and was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Joe Ann Blalock Crawford and his daughter, Donna Ann Cornwell. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Jim Crawford.
Don was a longtime prominent resident of Kings Mountain and enjoyed staying active. He was involved in Boy Scouting for more than 80 years and a member of the Lions Club and countless other civic organizations. Don was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church where he and his late wife, Joe Ann, were very active.
Don possessed a servants heart which was reflected in the many awards and commendations awarded to him over the years. He was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given to a civilian by the governor, as well as the Dr. Charles Bell Award for scouting. Don served as the District Governor for the International Association of Lions Clubs and as the Wood Badge Deputy Camp Chief of Boy Scouts of America. Throughout his life, Don endeavored to enrich the lives of the people of Kings Mountain. Don’s leadership, kindness, friendship, and generous spirit will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Perkins-Crawford, Matthews, NC; grandchildren: William “Bill” Paul Cornwell (Melissa), Durham, NC, and Angela K. She worked as a waitress for most of her life. Kristy was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be dearly missed by her beloved family.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – James Robert Ledford, 77, of Kings Mountain, NC, died at home on February 12, 2022.
 Robert was born on May 24, 1944 in Kings Mountain, NC, son of the late Plato and Louise (Goforth) Ledford. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Ann Sutton Ledford, and brothers Arnold Ledford and Wayne Ledford.
Robert graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1962 and received an Associate degree in Applied Science in Business Administration from Gaston College in 1982.
Robert worked for Harris Teeter as Meat Market Manager for 30 years and at home on the family’s small farm. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and choir member, and he was a volunteer at Bethware Elementary School. As a younger man, he was an avid trail rider on his horse, “Big Red.” Robert never met a stranger, and if he didn’t know you, he knew of you or your family. His generous spirit, kindness, humor, and deep sense of family will be greatly missed.
Robert is survived by his two children, Charlene Reese Couch (Paul) and Derek Reese (Crystal), and his granddaughter, Autumn Reese, as well as a brother, Hubert Ledford (Kathy), a sister, Jean Ledford McClure (Jack), and a sister-in-law, Colean Ledford. He had seven nieces and one nephew.
A graveside service will be held at the Oak Grove Baptist Church’s cemetery in Kings Mountain on Wed., February 16 at 11 AM.

He was born in Casar, NC to the late Adam Lee Deveney and Ocie W. DeVeney and widower of Betty Allan DeVeney. In addition to his  parents and wife, he was also proceeded in death by his brothers Worth DeVeney and Stowe DeVeney.
He was a member of Westgate Baptist Church, Plantation, FL.  He was a retired mason and veteran.
Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Sue D. Allen and Wiley Allen of Kings Mountain; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary N. DeVeney and wife Marie, Charles A. DeVeney and wife Liz both of Naples, Fl.  One daughter and son-in-law, Connie and David Thornton of Palmetto, Fl.   4 Grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.

Born in Gaston County, he is the son of Geraldine Wall and the late Grady Farris Sr.
Grady loved his family and was a talented tradesman who never met a stranger. He was a big Steelers fan who also enjoyed remote control airplanes and playing music with various instruments.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sons, Grady “Sonny” Farris III and wife Lee Ann of Kings Mountain, Michael Farris and wife Jessica of Dallas; daughters, Candice Farris and fiancé Jeremy Hollifield of Jacksonville, NC, and Alysha Williams of Taylorsville, NC; sister, Wanda Farris of Winston-Salem, NC; step sister, Tammy Bailey of Concord; grandchildren, Erin Farris, Colby Farris, Trey Mitchell, Carter Farris, Madison Farris, Haven Hollifield, and Elden Hollifield.
A celebration of life service will be held at 5 pm, Thursday, February 10, 2022, at East Gold Street Wesleyan Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the church.

Born in Cleveland, NC, She was daughter of the late Sidney Short and Doris Oliver Short and was also preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” Ray Wright, Son, Larry Ray Wright and granddaughter, Jennifer Wright.
Evelyn was a member of the Family Worship Center, Church of God, Kings Mountain.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She always put others first and was a true servant to everyone she met.    She enjoyed traveling and camping, having traveled all over the United States and the world.  
She is survived by daughter: Kathy Wright Bridges, Kings Mtn.; son: Danny Kaye Wright and Patricia Abernathy, Kings Mtn.; 5 grandchildren: Michael B. Smith and Ashley, Kings Mtn. , Heather W. KINGS MOUNTAIN , NC – Wilda Christine Trout, 93, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on January 29, 2022 of natural causes at The Phoenix of Dunwoody assisted living facility in Dunwoody GA.
She was born in Woodruff, SC, daughter of the late Thomas Ferd Lanford (Woodruff’s first Fire Chief) and Susan Cannon Lanford. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Guy C. Trout who died in 2008. Wilda was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Thomas Ferd Lanford Jr., MN; John D Lanford, SC; Ouida L. Presti, MA and Jeannette L. Morris, MA.
Wilda was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church where she loved singing in the choir. She was also an amazing cook, especially baking and frequently shared with her friends and neighbors. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She was an accomplished typist and used an old-fashioned typewriter for many years to write letters to her children, sisters, nieces and nephews. She truly loved her family very much, especially her only granddaughter Lauren who was the apple of her eye. She played piano by ear, no sheet music necessary and young Lauren would sit next to her and sing. She was a sweet, kind and generous lady who is being reunited with her beloved husband Guy on their anniversary February 5.
